Exciting News!

I've had the privilege to meet an amazing web developer who's interested in working with me. Do you guys remember way back I was thinking of adding stuff to the site like comments and polls? But through an external site? Well, this guy can program anything from scratch... ANYTHING O_O

So, let's let our imaginations run wild!
...in a world where ANYthing's possible...
Have you ever finished a doll and thought "Boy, I sure wish that now I could... [____]"?
...what were you thinking?...
Have you ever loaded the site and thought "Gee, I sure wish I knew... [____]"?
...what were you wondering?...
Have you ever gotten frustrated and thought "Grrr, I wish Doll Divine had the [____] feature, the way that [_____].com does!"
...what seemed to be missing?...

I don't want it to be THE next social networking site. But, I want it to be the ultimate experience for those that love making dolls. Please, sit back, close your eyes, and picture logging into the wickedest doll site ever. What would it offer you? Let me know! Hopefully we can make it happen! =D

~OLa
PS. no more genetics for ATLA guys.. The next two months of my life are swamped (luckily this time, with Doll Divine related things, but still) and I need to make more games!
PPS. I see we gots some drama on the last post, and I don't have time to intervene directly this time but thank you to those standing up for me, and to those brave enough to give me honest feedback! You're all wonderful! <3
PPPS. I gots some programming help, and there are actually 3 games being worked on at once, so there'll be a flood of new stuff soon! :D

  1. Ola can doll divine be accessed on a NETbook? My granddaughter is soooo into the site, and we are planning a very long cross country train trip. She wants to take her passion with her.I tried to send you an email but it came back. Your doing a fantastic job... Mema california

  2. Hi Mema,
I'm not sure.. I guess I don't know exactly what a netbook is? But for a trip, you'd probably want to download the games so that you can play without an internet connection. For most games, RIGHT-clicking on the "Play in fullscreen" link, and selecting "save as link/target as" will let you download the game for whenever ~

  3. are u still working on atla Ola?

  4. It'd be nice if we could have a mini-copmetetion thing, where y make a certain doll style etc etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Am I the only one who is really excited about this? Haha, your dolls are impressive to say the least. I like what Sunshadow mentioned, competitions to create things. I know people do that a lot on deviantart.

I have one question for the site restructuring; Will it require registration/membership to make comments and whatnot?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Are you going to add more background options for atla? i have a few sugestions...

    1. Appa's saddle, you could put clouds or somthing behind it so it looked like they were flying.

    2. Some kind of campsite. just a few sleeping bags and a fire or somthing.

    3. A prison

and 4. somekind of beach, or maybe a spirit would scene.

    that would be awesome, thanks.

(p.s. i was wondering if you could add the kid versions of the characters. they don't have to be dress up, just drag-and-drop or somthing like that.)

    P.p.s. you're doing an amazing job! :D

  7. These are exciting developments! Good for you, Madam! You're a dear and thanks for being so fabulously creative. :-)

  8. OMG, I just wrote a big long comment, and the computer goes and deletes it! (Okay, so it might have been kinda my fault... ^^;) So here we go again: This is really cool! I'm super psyched to see what we come up with, and what this web developer guy can do with the site! As for suggestions:

If we're doing a user log-in thing, there should be user profiles, and maybe a PMing system? But besides that, if there are user profiles, we should be able to save dolls we've made into a sort of gallery thing.

I have to go, but I'll be back and give some of my other ideas later! :3

  9. Woah! All my dreams come true....I'm not exactly sure what becuase I think that's it's already perfect but I think perhaps maybe... a competition like every month or so, about one game where you make a character with a theme or make a character from a popular series. I'm not sure who'd judge them, now I think about it (because you'll be busy making games) so probably not very helpful. Sorry!

PS: I think you are making excellent progress on all of the games and that people get so excited about being able to do things, they forget you do this for free and as a hobby? (I think...) So, GO OLA!!!!

  10. Hi,
when i saw "Boy, I sure wish that now I could... [____]"? i instantly thought of something. i think that you should be able to right your dolls name, like the 'My Little Pony' game. Its just an idea :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm not really sure- as far as 'Boy I sure wish that now I could...' I've only wished to be standin that near to Snape or Lucius in the Harry Potter game!! Haha, but I think a user login system could be good, maybe having an avatar maker (As in.. a face maker, not ATLA or the film Avatar!) so we can make ourselves in your style (Though I know that will mean extra work for you, but I guess it all will). I s'pose if you want to go to the extreme end, something like www.stardoll.com but better, it used to be good but now is hard to use and just awful. But I like this site in the way it is so I think for now just user profiles!

  12. i like the idea of, if it's going to have user profiles, having galleries of dolls you've made. mostly, what i'd be most interested is seeing more regular updates on progress for the different makers that are in development (and maybe mini notes on what, exactly is being worked on at the moment, i.e. clothing or shoes or genetics or whatever), and maybe more complete lists of what's in the works? i know i go to your website a couple times a day to see if the progress bars have moved, and i'm always super psyched about whatever's in that side bar. if it's going to be user based, maybe you can also have a forum or something, so people can easily share what they've made?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I really like the contest idea!

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's really fun to see how your site's evolved over the last year or so. It's too bad you don't have someone else working with you on the dolls themselves, so you wouldn't get so overwhelmed with projects like the AtLA set.

I like Ali's idea of having a custom avatar maker, if you do have people creating profiles.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mabye a photo gallery so when your done making a doll we have the option to post it on your website?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think the avatar maker would be a great idea, plus it wouldn't take nearly if you do a shoulder-up one like most are.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I personally am not a fan of user profiles and personal galleries. I would never visit other profiles when I could be busy with creating something myself. There are more than enough other websites with such options. User profiles and galleries don't add a lot to the gameplay and I like the spartan look of the site (well, not really spartan, but it's very easy to navigate).
Comments under the games themselves usually don't contain more than 'try this combination' or: 'I wish you could do that combination'.
I like the site as it is! Maybe a general gallery would be fun, you just give a name when you want to add a doll.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well if we're talking about contests guys, if there are comments directly under the doll and whatnot, we can always organize contests ourselves instead of having Ola try to. After all, she is the one making the games!

Some other things I thought of: There could perhaps be a little box or something where people could suggest ideas for games? Although if you did that you'd probably be constantly swamped with ideas. :P Maybe a status thing that tells us what game you're working on, and what you're working on in the game you're working on. And something I thought of: if you're letting us do things like comment directly to the games and being able to save dolls we've made and stuff, will some of the makers of the games you've found be okay with that? I know most of them are from DevArt anyway, which lets you do things like comment directly on the games, but will some of the artists have an issue with it anyway? I can't think why they would, but you never know with some people. And if it is an issue, what will you do? 'Cause if you have to take some of the games off that'd really suck. :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is fantastic news! One thing that I would like to change is to choose whether the shirt is tucked in or not because even if it's a blouse, it still tucks into everything but the tightest pants.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I kind of feel sorry about the debate thing. I *did* sound like a jerk, now that I think about it, but it was really annoying see people yelling at you like you weren't an overworked human (and in general, it just bugs me when people beg you to do something (writing more, for me) without taking into consideration that you have a life/other things to do/can't magically come up with things all of the time). I'd go back there and see what else they said about me, but I was reading up on the He Who Fights Monsters thing...

I do like the idea of having some tucked in/not tucked in shirt options. :)

I would be nice to have a collapsible comments section set up kind of like the one here (where you don't necessarily have to log in to anything to post), but those things usually tend to attract spam.

I do like the album on your Facebook - could you set up something like that under each game? As in, under the Four Elements game, all of the Four Elements related fan-submitted screen-caps/fan art could go in an album by the description?

I think that's all for now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I sure hope your gonna add Mai, Tylee,Suki and Yue to ATLA! I've been waiting so long! I was a little dissapointed that they won't have genetics. . .but, oh well. Maybe sometime in the future, when your not so busy, you can go in and add the genetics then ;D Your doing great, it's really the best game on the site, I think!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Q: Have you ever finished a doll and thought "Boy, I sure wish that now I could... [____]"?
    ...what were you thinking?...

A: Make an online world like neopets.com, where the doll is your character, and you interact through that character!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think it would be pretty rad if the blog comments (or comments on games) were able to be configured so someone would be able to leave a comment directly in reply to someone else's comment - think livejournal, or reddit, or sites like that, as opposed to youtube comments. so each reply depth would be indented. like, for instance...

    person 1:
-super cute game!! if only there was a pink
    -shirt with dots
    ---person 2:
----there is a pink shirt with dots! just go
----to page two and it's right there :)
    ------person 1:
    -------wow, thanks!
    ---person 3:
    ----there is a pink shirt!
    ---person 4:
----omg ikr that would be so cute

    ReplyDelete
  24. actually, i also don't like the idea of having profiles. one of the things i love most about dolldivine is now easy to navigate and uncluttered the site is, and how ALL the emphasis is on the games themselves, not socializing or networking or anything like that. maybe, if people wanted a platform for sharing dolls they made and hosting contests and stuff, you could set up a forum like lunaii has, and people could use that to share dolls and hold contests. i just think it would really degrade the quality of your site to have all of that stuff cluttering the games area.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think it would be great if you could have polls on the website of what games people want to see next. Like you would give 5 or 6 options of games (ie. alice in wonderland, princess ect.) you've started and people would vote on which one they wanted you to finish first! Then the one that got the most votes would be the one you would work on.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think it would be kind of cool if you could change the position or poses of the dolls.

    ReplyDelete
  27. bridgette- i access the site on a netbook regularly. as long as you have internet connection you should be able to.

ola- i would love if we could favorite the games- like each of us could log in to the site and then have a "my favorite dollmakers" page where we can add games to it and all our favorites are listed!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Changing the poses would mean that shed have to redraw and reprogram everything though, and I doubt that's a project she'd be willing to take on...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, I forgot:
a 'random game' button would be nice. Sometimes I wish for that, when I don't know exactly which game I would like to play.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oooooh, a random game button would be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree a random game button would be sweet!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think polls for the next game would be a great idea, and the suggestions box also sound nice. But I think the thing I'd most like to see would be a rating for each game, like one where people can rate the game out of 5 stars and it calculates the average that way you can see what people like the most/least and maybe take that into consideration when designing knew games. It would be like another form of feedback but I think more people who reply because it's impersonal and requires less effort then a blog post.

I don't really care for the profile or contest thing, it's sounds like it would take about a lot of space on the site. Maybe a group on facebook, devaintART or a similar site for contests, for those who want them?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like the profile idea to show what I create on your sight, but as some have said it may take up to much space and be overly complicated (Bad speller sorry!). That or a large gallery for everybody, that we can just up load our creations like we up load coments on this post and mabey have a coment box under our up loaded creations so others can comment and see them. Perhaps even a way to chat with others who are playing the same game as you at times! Thats my ideas! Hope you don't kill yourself makeing awsome games for all us little people, Ola!

    ReplyDelete
  34. About the poll: how about one in which all the suggestions so far are? That way people can see which suggestions have already been made, so you won't get them multiple times, and we can see which are popular too. I know I'd like know:)

About the rest: I pretty much love your site as it is. I've been coming here since you only had the fairy, mermaid, elf, warrior and pirate. And it seemed perfect to me from the start, even though the background was a kinda boring brown...:P Sorry, brown isn't my favorite colour, I prefer green:)
Anyway, what I want to say is: I think it still is. I love playing around, although I must admit that I play the originals way less, but that's probably because I already made so many dolls;)

So what I'm trying to say is: I love your work as it is, it's fine (and indeed: the easy navigation is a great pro), no perfect the way it is. Except for that huge poll:P

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is so cool! I can't wait until you get all the new stuff working! That profile thing sounds cool and i like the idea of the random button. Maybe for the profile thing, you could make it optional or something cause i know some people don't like that and it would probably create a lot of work for you and your partner.

P.S. Great job on ATLA!! Can't wait for the next games!

    Des

    ReplyDelete
  36. it would be really really cool if you could move the doll joints for a dress up like you could get the doll to sit or lie down all while in a dress up game I think that would be a big plus for your games

    ReplyDelete
  37. To repeat:
"Changing the poses would mean that shed have to redraw and reprogram everything though, and I doubt that's a project she'd be willing to take on..."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Boy, I sure wish that now I could... [____]

    PRINT IT

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anon here ^: To print all you have to do is hit the 'print scrn' key on the top of your keyboard, and past it into word or something like that, and print from there if you're using a pc. I'm not sure about what you have to do using a mac though. ^^;

A random game button would be awesome, and a rating system would be cool too. If you wanted to do the favourite button, you could just have it so any game you rate 5 out of 5 or whatever the number is would automatically go into a favorites list, right? Two in one! :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. MY IDEAS

Maybe a place where you can suggest games or make comments about them. Or a forum. Or something like that.

You could make a poll on the site to ask people what game they want you to work on next.

Idk. Those are the only ideas I have for now. Hope it goes well!

    ReplyDelete
  41. WHAT IF YOU MADE A GALLERY FOR US TO SAVE OUR PICTURES WE MADE IN??? I WOULD LOVE THAT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. JUST BECAUSE I WAS A JERK DOSN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO BE MEAN ABOUT IT!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Demeter - what on earth is your problem, dude?

@Ola - Doll divine is pretty damn fabulous the way it is!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I kinda doubt that's really Demeter. Don't engage, just keep making suggestions, because there have been some really good ones.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Liliana over here. I think that polls/ forums would be a great idea too.

    Des

    P.S. SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like many of the ideas, but we also have to remeber that some of our ideas will take alot of work and that we can't pressure Ola for everything. We don't want the quality of the cite to get in the way of the quality of the games. Also many things like polls and sugestions for in progress games can be done right here. :) Don't kill yourself Ola but keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Anon

ikr! I'm in Oklahoma and we can barely get out of our house! It's Awesome!! But sadly I'm homeschooled. So no snow day for me ):

    Anyway Amazing job Ola!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think the website is great as is. I don't have a big problem with it at all. I'm sure anything you add will just make it better.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Here's a random and cool idea for a dress up game, princessor emporer's daughters from around the anceint world. there could be different parts. Part one Mesopatamia, part two eygpt, part three india, part four, greece, part five rome, and when the game is finished there could be a map and you could click on the civilization icon on the map to lead to the dress up game. idk just sounds awesome.
    -Flame

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh and i love your idea for the website, maybe one day it could turn into to one of those worlds where you could create a character and walk around a virtual world. also i love it when you can add info about the character that you made on the side like with the dragon and cat makers. Love the site.
    -Flame
PS i'm one of the few twelve year olds

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, that definitely wasn't me. Wrong URL, for one (I don't think I've ever gone to Yahoo!). And the troll punctuation... *cringes*

I'm apologizing in advance if anyone does that again.

    ReplyDelete
  52. There are not print buttons in

    Pinup
    Air
    Earth
    Fire
    Water
    Elven Fashion
    Fairy Tale
    Polish Traditional Costume

And by print button I do not mean using the Print Screen button on my keyboard.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that Doll Divine should not change too much. Right now it is easy to navigate and unique to the fact that /anyone/ can play it.
When I said a membership type thing- I meant a simple registration that had a username and password. And that's just to keep track of what people make what comment.
I don't think Doll Divine should become a virtual world. I love how simple it is right now.
You guys have some really great ideas though!

    ReplyDelete
  54. What about ... a way for users to submit their own pieces for your dolls? Like if someone wanted something for a doll, a way to make it and send in the file, so that the doll gets updated with less work from the artist/you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. A random game button would be very cool. I like the idea of a simple log-in, and the ability to make comments on individual games--though there'd have to be some way to hide comments so the page isn't looooong. Aside from that, everything I'd want to be different is just personal preference (less pink..) and really doesn't matter. The website is great as it is now!

On a separate note, I'd like it if in the blog, clicking on the banner at the top would link to the main site.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gosh. I guess I don't need print buttons.

Oh wait. This is about what I would like, not what you, Rune, say I do or do not need.

As a side note, no, I do not need print buttons. I would like print buttons. I would like to take a doll from my computer, the virtual world, and manifest into the physical world.

And no, I do not like using 'print screen'. Because often this doesn't work well, it comes out grainy, stretched, or the colors don't match up to what I chose.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi, I had a flash question. I'm making a dress up doll, and I'm having trouble with changing the color of the hair in game, I can't figure out a way to have it so the one color button changes the color whatever hairstyle is the current one (like in your dollmakers). I got it so that I can change the style (having the movie clips containing the different colors for each hairstyle, all within another movie clip). But the way I was using to change the color (the button changes each of the hairstyle's movie clips to the frame with that color) but it won't change any of the colors of any hairstyle.
Is there another way to get that effect? Help would be appreciated, sorry for the long comment!

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Anon - Thats not a problem with print screen, thats a problem with your graphics program. Also? Get a name.

    ReplyDelete
  59. While we're talking about wishes...
I think it would be nice to add some more options to the sailor senshi maker; like thinner back-bows, options to create a fuku like sailor cosmos, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think a cool idea would be to be able to save your outfits to your own account

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Anon: No need to get snarky, we're just trying to help. Rune's right, that's an issue with your graphics program, if you want a better one there are a bunch you can download for free online. Seriously though? Chill out. And if you are meaning to keep commenting here, I'm gonna have to agree with Rune: get a name.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have to say, your site is one of the first ones i check to see if anything is new. I love all of the games, they are all amazing!
But just so you know, i'm almost annoyed by the Avatar game. Love the series, adore your site, I think its a GREAT idea, but its just my opinion: i don't like it as much. Personally I think that you should spend a bit more time on your other promised games than on Avatar.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ^ Even if ATLA is the most-hyped game right now, it doesn't mean that she's not working on the others.

Eek! I know I've said it before, but I'm so excited for the Victorian Butterfly game!

Hey Ola, can you give us a quick run-through of who's helping you work on the games in the side-bar? I want to check out whoever is helping with the Princess Maker.

    ReplyDelete
  64. :O OMG, you're doing a Tudors collab with Azalea???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEP!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!!! :D

    ~Ali

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Ali: Yes, I just read it on the azalea's site! This is gonna be totally awesome!
Though I would just love a general princessmaker from acient egypt to victorian times, where you can customize literaly every aspect (as in sleeves, collars, tops, waist, skirt, shoes, hair) I know this is impossible, since it would take longer than forever.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I was just looking on azaleas dress up dolls and it said that there was going to be a tudor dress up game, i just want to let you know how awsome that is
    greetings from the netherlands

    ReplyDelete
  67. tudors zomg, that just made my day. i'm SO looking forward to this!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Flower, I totally agree with that idea, it would be incredible! Especially if there was plenty of 18th Century French/Georgian and Regency fashions... *drool*

    ~Ali

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm probably gonna sound really stupid but what is tudors?

    ReplyDelete
  70. What I think you should do is to add a complete list of all the games you are planning on doing/hope to do. For example On Azalea's site she said ehr next upcoming game is a Tudors collab with you but I'm sure that nobody besides you two knew you were planning that. I just think that having a more complete list of what's coming up and your hopes/ambitions for future games would be useful. It would also probably stop people from requesting the same thing over and over and instead help them to say what they want in the games instead of just what game they want.

    ReplyDelete
  71. man, ola i love this website so much i've been coming here almost everyday for about a year i think anything you do with this website would be epic!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree with the anon above! @anon, BTW please use a name. it doesn't have to be your own, just something to make us able to adress you!

@Our favorite dressupmaker Ola: I would just love to know what you're planning. I don't really need to know when, but it would just be great to see you consider it. And I recall you saying that once you had made plans for the next ten months. Ofcourse that changes with more people asking for one thing or new collabs, but still, it would be nice to have a bigger picture. Perhaps you could post it on your blog, instead of your site?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hi Ola, I didn't see any of the 'drama' as I haven't really been on my laptop lately (been too busy painting =-P) Anyways, I hope nothing too nasty was said and that it didn't upset you.
It's great news that you've got new games planned. I can't wait to have a mega dolling session!! XD

    ReplyDelete
  74. Julie, the Tudor period was the part of British history in which the Tudor family were our monarchs- 15th century to the early 17th century, roughly. Most famous of all would be Henry the 8th with his 6 wives or Bloody Mary, or Elizabeth- though her reign is known as the Elizabethan times, so whether you include her or not is your own opinion. (All monarchs included being Henry the 7th, Henry the 8th, Edward the 6th, Lady Jane Grey (though she was not a Tudor and lasted only 9 days), Mary 1 and lastly Elizabeth 1).

One of the MOST important and basic aspects of History.

    ~Ali

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ooh, I love period dress ups. I've been looking everywhere for a victorian (not steampunk; the skirts are usually too short) dressup. Do any of you know where I can find one?

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Ali thank you :D! sounds like its gonna be an awesome game!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. @Julie that's ok :) It doubt it'll be the actual monarchy though, it's probably going to be the fashions of the time. But still amazing... ruffs, and puffy sleeves and stuff!

    ~Ali

  78. I think a terrific idea for a dress up game would be Indian (Not native American, mind you) clothing. Beautiful, colorful Sarees, sherwanis, and that amazing detail and class you bring to all of your games. Every time I see an Indian dress up game, they're usually on the crappy side and that saddens me!

  79. Emmett Brown is AwesomeMarch 17, 2011 at 8:14 PM

I think it would be cool to have a dressup with clothes that go from a darker shade to a lighter. For an example, from dark brown to yellow. I've been looking for something like that for a long time. Thanks for considering.

    Hi i am Yazz,
The site is great. I have created a profile and have created several dolls, but there is a problem. I can't seem to save my creations. I have tried several times on different occasions but i can't seem to get the dolls to be saved.

Please help, for i will like to be able to look back on my work and show off my gallery.

Oh keep up the good work with the website.:)
