Avatar - Call for ideas!

After the 4 elements dress up, I'm gonna make an Avatar dress up. I was gonna do Star Trek, but I just saw the movie and know that I should really jump on the opportunity. I'm already late as it is.

But, in the meantime, I thought I'd put out a call for ideas. You guys always have good ideas, and since you know I don't always have the energy to go back and add stuff later, I thought I'd ask before :)

It's gonna be a couples dress up!
Please post any items/options you'd like to see in the game, and feel free to link to photos for reference.

I am also wondering:
How important is the human/army clothing? I would rather not add it, unless I hear protests..
How important is it to change the facial features? The Na'vi all look similar so I'm debating whether it's worth the effort.

73 comments:

  1. i think facial features are fine. i'd like an option to change the hairstyle. also, background options(of course!), and some weapons. maybe some of those awesome Ikrans. maybe a human or Na'vi option. i can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  2. maybe be able to decide what class of na'vi you are? like a warrior etc... i agree with the commment above regarding facial features and maybe ikrans? :D avatar was so good! :D

  3. I have an idea for a dress up game: Egyptian dress up game. It could be a princess or a pharoh. Maybe even Clepatra! That would be really cool!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Frak it, I thought you meant Avatar: The Last Airbender and got all excited...

Ah, well. I haven't seen this movie, but I've seen pics and they're really pretty. Definitely an option on differing shades of blue, and lots and lots of pretty beady things!

  5. Going off the class thing that Anonymous (the first) said, you could have warrior clothing, shaman or mystic clothing, and civillian clothes (Na'vi casual? haha). You could probably draw some inspiration from tribal African and South American clothing. Work in some bone, feathers, face paint.

  6. I came up with a few ideas!^_^ How about a face/body paint option?Because I saw the movie[BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!]and some of the different leaders had paint designs on them. Also the option of the big flying thing that jake sully rides that Natiri's grandfather rode and made him a legend.[ I don't know how else to describe it except that it's big and red-orange in color!!!]
Also what about that big black jungle cat thing that Natiri rides after her ikran dies?I agree that human clothing should be in the game too.And defidently weapons because that's pretty much the whole theme of the movie[the war between humans and the Na'vi] I also agree with the differing shades of blue and different facial features.[that would be so cool ^_^]Oh yeah the horse like things should be included too.And changing hair features are defidently needed!
[sorry this is alot I'm asking for but I'm just so excited for this game!!!!!!]
    Can't wait!

  7. If they're couples, their tails should link up. You don't have to worry about face features (variate noses, eyes, and mouthes..but not much. Like lip thickness, position of mouth-smiley, flat, etc-, eye position- big, smallish, slanted, or almost round) but I would add check buttons for those whitish freckles, on cheeks, nose, arms, legs, down nearish the tail... And lots of tribal markings. Feathers, paint..

  8. i cant wait

i hope you give themlots of hair styles cause those beads looked so cool!!!!!!!!!

weapons, backgrounds(if there real hard use sceenes from the movie mabye), and like with the adventurer give options for pets(diff coloured flying things, puddy cat things)

    cant wait

  9. I think different hairstyles would be very important, but of course there won't be any problems with the haircolor (altough I've seen a few fan-made pictures with darkbrown hair color).
It seemed, that all the noses looked identical.
I think I'd wouldn't hurt, to make a option for the lips, and eyes for expressions.

In the other points I can only agree with the posts before me.

Have a nice day, and sorry for my bad english.

  10. Different hair styles (definitely)and also colours because the hair can be anywhere from red to black.
I think it would be fun to come up with lots of clothing styles and AWESOME if you included the beaded cape thingy that the shaman lady wears (she also has a shawl that looks like it is made out of some sort of insect wings).
Can there be options for different bioluminescent patterns (because they're all different); maybe drag-and-drop spots?
    But hey, it's your game!

    ReplyDelete
  11. All of the faces are different. REALLY different. I think it's important to make changeable faces.
Also is the game the na'vi (or however you spell that) of the avatars or both because the avatars are different-looking (they have five fingers and the na'vi have three; they have eybrow hair and the na'vi don't; they have smaller eye etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree with the faces. I mean Tsute and Natiri don't look anything alike do they?[haha bet you didn't take that into account for!^_^]But to the anonymous above me^ the na'vi don't have 3 fingers!!!

  13. I agree with most of the previous comments about the various clothing styles and different hair options/skin color options. Maybe for facial features you could have various lip/nose seizes, such as full lips to cupid bow lips?

    ReplyDelete
  14. On ideas for new dress up games, maybe a circus dress up, or greek goddess/god?

    ReplyDelete
  15. i personally would not be satisfied if the only face we could make was this:
    http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1194501/photo_21_hires.jpg
i think there should definitely be facial feature customization! and different hues of the blue skin color, but not different eye or hair color since that is the same for all of them. but as far as clothing goes i agree with pretty much all of the comments above.

    ReplyDelete
  16. lol, i haven't seen the movie, but maybe having some of the little creatures in it as little life forms you can put next to them might be cute. <.<

  17. Just saying... anyone who hasn't seen this movie MUST SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!

  21. Another question: what's a Sari?
    ~B~

    ReplyDelete
  22. actually, could you do a werewolf theme? (yeah i know its not about avatar.....) And for avatar, could you do skin patterns and human to alien options?

    ReplyDelete
  23. "A sari or saree or shari is a female garment in the Indian Subcontinent. A sari is a strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from four to nine meters in length that is draped over the body in various styles. The most common style is for the sari to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder baring the midriff."

Wikipedia is there to help you, ~B~.

  24. I've been following this site for awhile; totally awesome-sauce.

    For the couples:

You should do a Pocahontas/John Smith theme, because they were so epic in the disney movie. XD Like with the warriors dress-up, you could use those facial features and options, since there were so many. You could add the racoon and dog on the side, or maybe even a few other animals. It doesn't have to be Poca/John. It could be like culturally different people, and how love like that was forbidden....
I didn't watch avater, so I can't offer anything on that note...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have no real opinion on the Avatar game (I refused to watch the film, myself, though I'll gladly play whatever you put together ;). ), but I do have rather an odd suggestion, so I apologise in advance if it gets a tad long-winded...
How about a dress-up surrounding the protagonists (both male and female) of traditional folklore? Not just the usual fairy-tales, I mean, but things like Rashencoatie, the girl from The Red Shoes and The Girl with Silver Hands, (for female) or Hans my Hedgehog and the fellow from The Tinder Box (for male).
Of course, not many of these character have actual descriptions (apart from Rashencoatie and Hans my Hedgehog..) but I thought it might be an interesting study to design a game from that strain of inspiration, especially if one strays from the domain of solely European tales.
    Just a thought, of course~

  26. Thanks , ERA! That really helped me out!^_^

  27. Magmamagda: well since the na'vi have pretty much the same nose, i would vary the width and lenght of it but keep the same concept. i would have different hairstyles but not only na'vi so we can make itlook like ourselves. differentmouth and eye styles mostly so to vary the na'vipeople. i would add the human war clothes because the avatars wear human clothes. i wuld add different styles of sparkles.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good idea with the avatar! I twould be cool if we could change the har, the eyes, you know the usual, and mybe different face make up ( you know like warrior, every day, special, etc. ) , it would also be cool if we could pick our species ( human or Na´vi)! Cant wait

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think you should stick to the Na'vi and not worry about humans or human clothing. It'd be hard enough to make a one-gender Avatar game. As for facial features, you don't need to go to far with it, a few different eyes maybe and that's it. I'd want you to focus a lot more on the clothing and accessory options, hair options, and face paint/markings. I'm sure you're going to have a lot of fun with this! I know it'll be great because your style of drawing fits very well with the actual Na'vi in the movie! Can't wait!

  32. Hey hey, haven't commented in quite awhile, (sorry!) so I thought I'd add my two cents...(Right term? :P ) Anyways, I think facial features are fairly important...Nothing super fancy, just different eyes, noses, change the broadness of the face, ya know. Like most of your other dolls. :) Maybe just a couple different tones for the skin...more green, more purple, ya know. I think it'd definitely be cool to add the war clothes. Your weapons always look awesome, so that'd be cool. The movie is rather themed in that tune, anyways. Anyhoo, just some ideas. I'm afraid, at the moment, I have no ideas for any other dolls...

Anyways, good luck! Can't wait to see your latest. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  33. I know theres gonna be a lot of work on ur hands, but i think it would be nice if u could have the character Jake be in his human form with his chair because the movie is also about acceptience of others.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So wait, are you planning on doing Star Trek or Avatar, I'm confused!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm surprised that so many people want many shades of blue! WHY???? Personally I don't think there's much personal expression that can come out in your shade of muted-aqua, but please explain and prove me wrong! :)

There will TOTALLY be body paint :D
I'll see what I can do about the freckles. I think drag n drop spots is a great idea, but at the same time, it might be almost impossible because they're so small!
There'll definitely be LOTS of hairstyles :D

Not sure about the birds/animals/horses.. they're dolls in their own right so I'll see how I do with time.

Wow, I can't believe how many people want the human clothing *hates human clothing* lol.

As you can see, I'm always trying to balance work with versatility! :D

I don't know how to link here. As you can see, I just paste the links, and people can copy/paste them if they like :)

A Sari is those beautiful outfits that Indian women wear! And thanks for the explanation, ERA :)

Spin, why don't you want to see the movie?

Lily, I've basically been hoping everyone would say what you had (not to worry about the human clothing), but they hadn't, hehe. I'm still not sure which way I'll go.

madmab, I LOLed at your posts, hahahaha! I actually put those new status bars in for you.. to show you that we're not slacking as much as it seems :D

ElfLoverLovesElves, yes, "two cents" is the right term :). Thanks for the weapons compliment; that definitely makes me consider putting in more :D

I'm definitely not going to have fully human/avatar forms because that's way too much work. I do agree that it'd be cool to have Jake in the wheelchair, but technically it'd be sooo much more work (as you can see, drawing takes a lot of effort out of me, hahaha).

I was gonna do Star Trek, but I've slotted Avatar in before Star Trek.... I'm still gonna do Star Trek though!!

  36. I saw an odd Avatar-ish game on cartoondolleporium.com. It was WEIRD. The character had 4 ears and purple skin.

    I like
    ~Body Paints
    ~Hairstyles
    ~Skin shades
    ~Freckle things
    ~Weapons
~Human outfits as well as Na'vi outfits (because all avatars wear normal clothes.)

    Don't like
    ~Human feature
~Tail's entwined (Their braid-things should be)

Seriously though, Doctor Who dress up. Just saying. Watch "Rose": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdlzgOxbl0Q

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ieeh, I love Doctor Who! Such a great series:D
But a dressup? I don't think it would work out, since Rose just dresses as a normal girl, or in "history" dresses, but that be kinda boring, cause you don't have much to dressup thenXD. And the Doctor always looks the sameXD

But I agree with the rest you said;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. i'm glad i made you LOL!
and i'm SO glad i inspired you to add more status bars! :D YAY

    ReplyDelete
  39. I really really don't think you need human clothes. I know some of the Na'vi wear them in the film, but I don't think it'll be good for the dressup because the whole purpose is to make a na'vi with their cool tribal clothing, not give them tshirts and shorts. That also ties in with the human thing. And there's the fact that it'll take longer and be more work for you. I don't think facial features are really vital either, because there will already be a lot of customization in this game. I can't wait to see how it turns out, I'm sure it'll be great! And good luck with keeping your sanity through this xD
    -Lily

    ReplyDelete
  40. I REALLY REALLY REALLY think that facial features are vital!!!PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include them OLa!!!and Lily,I agree with you on the tribal clothing thing BUT I think that if the game had what you said it shouldn't have, it would be sooooo much better!Without facial features the characters we create won't be like exciting,or rather they won't have any personality to them.[sorry for wanting to make you do more work OLa, but I really want this game to be the best it can possibly be- not that it won't be awesome anyway!^_^ ]

  43. An idea for a dressup game is thundercats anyone remember the cartoon? keep up the good work :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. I definitely think you should have…
Different shades of blue for the Na’vi’s skin
Lots of beads and jewels (you can get ideas from African and Red Indian tribal jewellery)
Different hairstyles, eye colour, facial features and weights for the Na’vi
    Lots of tribal/Na’vi-style clothes
Ikran, those horse-type creatures and maybe some birds
If you chose a couple (e.g, Jake and Neytiri) their tails could entwine
If you want to, you could have…
    Human clothes
A human/avatar/Na’vi option so you can dress up any of the three

I love the movie, and can't wait for the game to come out! I love all of your work! xx

  45. Eh.Even better,an animorphs dressup.Like, once your done, you can download an animation of them morphing into something,or at least put customizable hork-bajir and andalite, even taxxon, characters in.Animorphs fanatic, and honsetly, you should try and get some of the animorphs music into it too.Like:'all in your hands' or 'song unsung' or 'fly away'(performed by poe).

  49. Hmmm. Haven't seen Avatar yet. Doesn't sound so special to me either. But since your dressups are always great, I will be happy to see it coming.

But I must say, I am THRILLED by the element game! I just love to draw these, so I can't wait! And even knowing that you do your very best, I still think it is going waaay to slow:P

BTW, you need a new blog;) I have to scroll waaay down again:P

  51. I think you should do a Last Airbender game that would be swicked!

    ReplyDelete
  52. can't wait for you to finish what you're on right now, much less the avatar!!!! i think the diferent shades of na'vi would be interesting, since you can change what shade of human you have in all your games... i think changing shades would make more people happy because some light light blue while others like dark and inbetween, so on and so forth. It's gonna be fun!!! =D

    ReplyDelete
  53. i like the idea for an egyptian dressup. also, i was thinking of a really cool Star Wars game, maybe with a few alien choices, like twi-leks, etc. as well as humans. or maybe just humans but with a choice to make them sith or jedi, with cool tattoos. your site is one of the best dressup sites ive seen. :D how much longer will it be until your done with the element game? it looks really cool, and its been over a month since you showed it.

just a comment about ur dressups=-D

    i have 2 faves
    1. hogwarts students (because i think its set up best[and mabye coz im a big hp fan `=-D])

    2. the sailor moon thing, now i don't even know what sailor moon even is but i fell in luv with the set up, i've made disney princsses, hogwartzies and heaps more, the lage variety of colour makes it ur best doll(though it would be good if u didn't HAVE 2 have *banges*)(just remember the fact its ur best because of the control u have over the doll and keep that in mind for future dolls!!!!)

    -keleni

    ReplyDelete
  58. keleni, that's very good insight. Thank you.
Indeed I'm finding that the Sailor doll and the Pony are currently sweeping livejournal communities.. and I think it's what you said: customization. Because in both dolls people can control so many colours, they can create any character they want.

Haha, I'm doing more work than it seems, but yes I'm also very distracted these days!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys: all added to the list.

Thanks for all the Avatar ideas! Even though a lot of you like the idea of switching between Na'vi and human, I don't think I'll make the human form. It would literally be twice the work and I know you don't like to wait! ;P

But yes, beads, hair, backgrounds, glowing spots, facial features.. all a go!

I'm still not sure about different shades of blue.. While doing research I collected a lot of screen shots from the film and I'm pretty sure they're all the same colour! I have a bunch of shots with entire crowds of Na'vi and it's like a sea of one shade of blue O_o

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can't wait to see how you design the Avatar game. As an artist my-self, I envy and admire your work. I wish you the best of luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. i noticed that the real naavi have four fingers on each hand, avatars have five, naavi have flatter catlike noses. Why is the planet named Pandora, why not something like Kerkacozor?pandora is the greek first woman.this girl made up a planet and people similar to naavi before avatar.they were part cat, human, and dragon with wings.the children with striped legs were trained to be warriors.~readerfreak says peace out (=^;^=)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah I have this "guide" to na'vi and human differences that i found on deviantART :D

I assumed Pandora was the name the humans called it, and I assumed it was named after Pandora's box. I don't remember the story but it was filled with snakes and horrible things. But if the na'vi call it that too then yeah, it doesn't make much sense.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Very Useful information , this is both good reading for, have quite a few good key point. It is my pleasure to read your article! Thank you for sharing !

    ReplyDelete
  63. For the Avatar game, you could have different panels (like the ones you used in the Element and Sailor Moon dressup game thingys) and have one for facial and bodily customziation (eye colour and shape, skin shade, hair style and colour etc) and then one for tops, one for trousers, one for dresses, one for jewellery, accessories and weapons and a final couple for background, maybe a couple of animals, and a few small boxes with different spot patterns. For example, in one box might have the outline of a Na’vi’s upper body and head (coloured in, of course) with a pattern of spots going across the cheeks and forehead, and then another in a different pattern. Just a suggestion. (Sorry, that’s a bit long-winded but I’m hoping I got my point across without being to scary/confusing.)
OR you could have the same thing, but the first panel has a quiz so you can select your gender and then do a quiz to find out what type of Na’vi you are (warrior, shaman, etc) and then dress up a character according to your gender and Na’vi job.
OR (hehe, I’m full of ideas!!!) have the panels for a female Na’vi, and then a male one, and at the end when you finish you can click a ‘Show’ button and they come up together on a final screen with the background you selected.
Can’t wait for the Avatar game – I saw the movie AND have the DVD. Is James Cameron not a genius?
PS. I agree with everyone who suggested different body tones, facial expressions, Red Indian and African-inspired jewellery, tribal tattoos and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree with different hairstyles, stripes, and outfits. The spots I have to disagree. It would take a long time, but it would be interesting to be able to apply them.

I also want to ask if you will make the normal Na'vi and the Avatars. The only difference is that the Na'vi have four fingers and the Avatars' have all five.

I still wish you best of luck on all of your projects, especially this one!

  67. I think you should do some dress up games for films like Twilight Eclipse, Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton, Shrek Forever After and many more.

    ReplyDelete
  68. i think a star wars dress up game would be cool

    ReplyDelete
  69. How about trying a wheelchair dressup? There could be both male and female. You could be able to change the legs. Just thighs/full legs/long skirts is a great idea! I think it could show some diversity. You could be able to change the person's skin to crazy wacked out skin, like light purple or dark green! You could make all sorts of styles for the clothing. Preppy/Boho/Punk/Goth/Emo, anything! I have always loved this website, but i think it could use some diversity.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hey, I was thinking you could put something on the finished thing that could change the skin colour.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I personally feel we could do with more male/female dressups like the Tudor, and I'm all for the fore mentioned Egyptian dressup. Another possible one which could be both intricate and quite beautiful would be a High Middle Ages themed dressup, but more like the Burgundian court fashions of the 13th and 14th century than the Hollywood fairytale/Tolken Elvish dresses. Layers an rich, gorgeous pattern variation like in the Tudor doll as well as those beautifully complex hennen, horned, and sugar loaf headdresses with optional draped veils. Aside from those the only issue is that it would be nice to have more option in figure builds.
